Project B3
Correlations and symmetries in Spin Systems
Gerhard Grübel
Project B3 studies fast, non-equilibrium demagnetization of domain-modulated transition-metal systems. The demagnetization process is initiated by short IR or THz radiation pulses and probed by resonant magnetic scattering with XUV or soft X-ray light pulses from FEL-sources. The aim is to understand the underlying spatio-temporal correlations and to enable control of ultrafast magnetic switching which is not only of scientific but also of technological interest. We will collaborate in particular with projects B2, B4, C1, A1 and A3. Furthermore, we are interested in the interaction of intense FEL pulses with the material’s electronic structure. The effects of massive photoionization of magnetic ions, influencing energy levels and resonance energies, will be studied in collaboration with projects A3, A4 and A???
