Exploring non-equilibrium dynamics in the Fermi-Hubbard model
Henning Moritz
We experimentally realize archetypical model systems for strong correlations with ultracold fermionic atoms. We will investigate the non-equilibrium dynamics in the Hubbard model and of superfluids in the BEC-BCS crossover. In the first funding period we realized strongly correlated superfluids and 2D Fermi gases, studying excitations and correlations with a spatial resolution comparable to the Fermi wavelength (together with C9). Next, we will perform interaction quenches testing the Kibble-Zurek hypothesis and look for dynamical phase transitions in both systems (joint effort with C5, C6, C9). In order to study the non-equilibrium dynamics in the Hubbard model (collaboration with B4, B5, C9), we reach out for a new level of sensitivity with single site, single atom resolved detection of correlations (in collaboration with A6).
