Bachelor and master theses, research projects as "HiWi
We offer theses and research projects in the field of "Computational Condensed Matter Theory". The overall goal is to understand the interplay of quantum mechanical correlations and complexity in order to control and steer quantum materials on an atomic scale.
Possible directions include:
- Quantum materials: electronic correlation effects and (unconventional) superconductivity, control of correlation effects by nanostructuring.
- Microscopic theory of correlated and complex quantum materials: combination of ab initio and many-body methods: "downfolding", development of many-body methods, coupled electronic and nuclear dynamics.
Theses and projects are available in this exciting field, generally requiring familiarization with fundamental aspects of the theory, then moving into a phase of computer program creation/application (often on large supercomputers), and concluding with interpretation and discussion of new physics results. What you should bring is an interest in condensed matter theory and fun with programming, numerical simulations, and physics discussions.
